This repeater is sometimes called the Staffing Net, '34 repeater. This repeater has great coverage of Utah County with the exception of Eagle Mountain area (in some places).
Simplex Operation
On the 2nd Tuesday of the month, we use this frequency on simplex during the start of our Weekly Net. Why would we use a repeater frequency for simplex?
- During the check-in portion of the net, the repeater is disabled
- The UCARES Comms Plan states that during a callout, a staffing net will be started on the 147.340 repeater (and linked repeaters). If the repeater were not working for whatever reason, we will still start a net on the 147.340 frequency to hold our staffing net. We want to make sure we have practice and that the mussle memory exists that he 147.340 frequency is the place to be.
If you are operating simplex on a repeater frequency, and are not sure if the repeater is working, you may want to call out the following: "This is callsign checking-in simplex". This will make sure that net control, or another relaying station is aware that you are on simplex.
Links
This repeater is normally linked to the 145.230 and 447.400, but it can be linked to other UCARES repeaters when needed. In such circumstances, please coordinate with the repeater committee by contacting leadership@ucares.org
