QST QST QST all amateurs,
The annual Scouting for Food Drive for Utah County is taking place,
Saturday, March 25th. I am looking for amateurs who can
help staff communication between food drop off points and the Utah
county Food Coalition in South Provo. Time requirements vary, but
typically we are needed to be on site from 9:00 AM. through about
2:00 PM. (Some locations will close down as early as 12:00-12:30).
(click on “Read More” to see the rest of the story…)
Locations needing to be staffed are:
Payson — Mountain View Stake Center — 75 South 600 East
Spanish Fork — Utah County South Armory — 2500 North Main (just
south of the Sheriff’s Office)
Springville — Springville Armory — 125 South 700 East
Orem South — Sharon Stake Center – 545 South 800 East — (Filled)
Orem North — Northridge Ward Church – 150 East 1750 North
Pleasant Grove — Ace Hardware — 330 south Main
Highland — Highland Stake Center — 9600 North 6800 West
Alpine — Red Church — ?
American Fork — 6th/8th Ward Church — 320 North 100 East
Lehi — Lehi Stake Center — 200 North Center
Saratoga Springs — Smith’s Parking Lot — 1320 N. Redwood Rd
You can see from the list that the number of locations has increased
this year. It looks like we will need about 14 hams. As you may
know there are two other activities going on the same day, so this
will be a test to see if we can man more than one event at a time.
Hopefully we can raise enought hams to cover all three activities.
This activity is a real low stress opportunity to provide a valuable
service to our communities. It is an ideal activity for newer
amateurs. Equipment needed would be a minimum of a 3-5 watt handheld
with a gain antenna, and enough spare batteries to last the specified
time requirements. A mobile transmitter will be required for sites
like Saratoga Springs, and possibly Lehi, and Alpine. I have not
yet coordinated the frequency we will be using with a repeater
trustee so that will have to be announced later.
With the exception of the South Orem site, all locations are
currently available. You can sign-up to help by replying to this
e-mail or after the Tuesday night ARES nets for the next two weeks.
Or you can call me, Rich Reimschussel, at 372-1045. This is my cell
phone with voice mail. If by chance fail to answer please leave me
your name, call, phone number and QTH. Assignments will be made on a
first come first serve basis based on your home location.
I am very flexible and will work around schedules, and personal
preferences. If you want to participate with another ham at some
location just let me know. If you are a member of a club or know of
other hams that are not currently participating in UCARES please,
please pass on the this information. All amateurs are invited to
participate.
Thanks for your willingness to help another worthy cause.
73,
Rich Reimschussel
