March Interface: build-it night

We are going to build ultra-light backpacker Yagi antennas. This is a 3-element Yagi for 2-meters made from an aluminum arrow shaft, and piano wire, with your choice of SMA or BNC connector. (Usual day, time, and location.)

Trent, N7GMT, is point man for the project; contact him with questions, to offer help, etc.

As announced last interface, and on the Net, we’re planning a build-it night for the March Interface. The project is a “2-meter, 3-element ultra-light backpacker Yagi” made from piano wire (elements) and an arrow shaft (boom).

This antenna was designed for ultra-light backpacking where weight is a premium; due to light weight of the materials, the antenna WILL NOT TAKE A LOT OF ABUSE, but if stowed carefully it should be a very handy addition to any jump-kit, and is, of course, great for backpacking when you need some 2-meter gain. It has been reported that it works on 70cm, as well as a 2-meter antenna will on the third harmonic (i.e., “it works, but don’t expect stellar performance”).

The cost will probably be about $10 ea.

If you want an antenna, send the following information to Trent, N7GMT before Saturday, 04.Mar.2006, so he can pick up the last of the supplies:

* your call-sign (record keeping for the project)
* how many TOTAL antennas you want
* how many with BNC connectors
* how many with SMA connectors

All the usuals for Interface: 1st Tues. (07.Mar.2006) 1900h, in the North Annex building at the Sheriff’s Office complex in northern Spanish Fork (exit 260). Talk in on the 147.34 repeater.

See y’all there! (You don’t have to want an antenna to come help, or just hang out.)
