Saturday, April 30th will be one of our first big public service
events of the season- the March of Dimes WalkAmerica event. This
event is held at the Seven Peaks Water Park in Provo. There are two
courses this year: a 2.5 mile and 5 mile walking course.
We have been asked to provide communications for an estimated 400
participants. This will be a great event to work your HT and prepare
you for other upcoming parades this year: Springville, Orem
Summerfest, Provo’s Freedom Festival and the Spanish Fork parades.
We have 27 locations that we want to cover with 7 of them being short
term for those that cannot stay the entire event. This ‘event’ will
be from 0900-1300 but we are asking ARES members to be at Seven Peaks
for a Event Briefing by 0745. Talk-in will be on the 147.34+ (100Hz) repeater
starting at 0730.
For our newer ARES members, event assignments are usually rest
stations, roving between specific waypoints to see if anyone needs
assistance, covering start/finish and shadowing the Event director.
We need to know by Tuesday April 26 those who want to participate.
Please email Suzanne Barney at k1zen@ucares.org if you are interested
in joining us and other information you might need.
Seven Peaks is located in Provo off 900 E at Center Street.
Freeway instructions:
Take I-15 to the Provo Center street exit (head towards the mountains). Take
Center up past 900E and you will see the Water park. The road will jog
to the left infront of the Seven Peaks Ice Area. Parking will be on
the left side, look for the Ut.Co. Sheriff RV or cars with antennas.
