Folks,
It is that time of year again. The annual Sage Riders Hare and Hound Desert Motocross race is taking place April 5th at Jerico, Utah. This is a fun event that tests your emergency communications skills. This year we need 12-15 radio operators. If you like the outdoors and want to participate in a low key event with good people, this is great event. This is a national race and nationally ranked desert race riders will be participating. Volunteer to help by sending an e-mail message to ad7gh@ucares.org
Things to think about for this event. The event lasts most of the day. It will not be canceled due to weather. Prepare for snow, rain, and sun. We have seen all types of weather during the race. Most the checkpoints are on dirt roads. 4wd is not strictly necessary, but I always bring mine (It’s all I have). Motorcycles and ATVs are welcome. Families are welcome. Since the race covers 80 miles, it is strongly suggested that external antennas, mobile radios, and high power be used. There are some positions that a handheld with a gain antenna would work if that is all you have.
We have a lot of fun at this event. We hope that you will participate. If you have questions please don’t hesitate to email me at my callsign at ucares.org.
Thanks,
Jeff Ballif
