This is updated information on the Sage Riders Hard & Hound Motorcycle Race on Saturday, April 14th
This is a professional & amateur classed event and the course is in the hilly, sage brush foothills near Jericho and the sand dunes.
UCARES provide communications, sometimes it is extreme commo, between the various checkpoints, shadowing Officials on the course and medical, the helicophter support in the Pit Area.
We handle emergencies, race information, information on lost riders, broken equipment and clearing check points with the sweepers that cover the course.
The Sage Riders Race is held regardless of weather—so come prepared. We’ve been snowed on, rained on, muddied and had it hot and dusty—even in one day.
Roads to the main campsite are paved or maintained.
A 4×4 is not required to get there, however there are some checkpoint locations that would require a truck or 4×4 to get to them. In the past, some ARES members have brought their ATV’s to the checkpoints.
The fun part of this event: You can go up the Friday night before and camp out. If enough people decide to overnight you can plan a cook out and have a great time.
Equipment: UHF and VHF is used. Due to conditions in the past we have had to crossband. Last year, due to excellent weather conditions and the location of the NCS we had no problems and used UHF.
Mobile radio’s will have the best power output and best communications range for this event.
Check into the Tuesday night Nets and sign up to help. More information on exact location and where to meet Saturday April 14th will be announced through email and Nets.
UCARES has helped Sage Riders for many years and our communications services are greatly appreciated.
