Special ‘No Code’ Test Session Friday, Feb. 23rd

There will be a special test session on Friday the 23rd of February
at 7pm. Holders of CSCE’s for General and Extra written will be able
to come in and upgrade at that time without taking the Morse Code
test. This will be in the BYU law library

Preregistartion is not required, but we’d like to know how many to plan for. Let Steve know by sending him an email at NV7V@ucares.org

If you come to this session for a “paperwork only” upgrade the charge
is still $14 even though you take no exams. The FCC and VECs require you to go to a test session and pay the $14 fee.

This will also be a regular exam session for Tech, General and Extra.
This session will be the first opportunity to upgrade without taking and passing Morse code.

We will meet at the main entrance to the Howard W. Hunter Law
library in the J Reuben Clarke law building on BYU campus. We start with paperwork, not in the library but outside the main doors in the hall. Park in the parking lot immediately west of the law building just don’t park in the usual restricted spots like Dean’s spot, delivery etc….

You need to bring two forms of ID, one preferably with a picture. $14.00 cash or check. You will need to put your Social Security number to put on the 605 form we send in (thanks to congress….).

If you are testing to upgrade an existing license be sure to bring an original and copy of your current license and
originals and copies of any credit (CSCE, Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination or other credit) needed
for the upgrade.

No programmable calculators…..If you want a scientific calculator Steve has several available including an HP 11C that
does RPN and polar conversion. The easy way is to use the calculator in Windows. The test is given on computers and is
graded immediately when you are finished. Specific instructions on how to run the program will be given you at the test
session but it is similar to practice exams available on the Internet.

P.S. Some people do not like putting their Social Security Number (SSN) on documents. You can register with the FCC
and obtain a Federal Registration Number (FRN) to use in place of your SSN. On the web go to:

http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls/

Right in the middle of the page at the top there is a bullet with the label CORES/CALL SIGN. Left click on it and
follow the instructions. Don’t worry about questions regarding a call sign. When you pass the test and are assigned a
call it will automatically associate your call with your assigned FRN.

We are expecting a larger than normal turn-out so come early and relaxed.
