In the event of an emergency
Several people have ask the question: ”In the event of an emergency, what are my responsibilities, and where would I report?”
- Ensure your family and neighborhood are OK. (be involved in your community CERT programs). The safety and welfare of your family is your primary responsibility. Your neighbors and friends would be next.
- Monitor the primary and secondary UCARES repeaters and simplex frequencies for staffing request, and check in there if your available. Chances are that a staffing net has been set up by UCARES leadership, on one of the UCARES frequencies. This is where we will be looking for volunteers for various assignments and resources. If a net has not yet been set up, you can start one and then transfer Net control later if someone more qualified is available.
- If you have a liaison assignment, see if you are needed. Check on the nets, or contact the staff at the liaison if possible. If the EOC is not active, determine if it should be activated. The request to activate could come from the liaison administration, or the SCATeam.
- If you don’t have an assignment, continue to monitor the UCARES nets to see if you’re needed and offer assistance and/or verified information if requested.
- If you have not been put to work yet, monitor the State Info Net. In Utah county that would be on the 146.76 repeater. (see the RACES section for more information)
