Utah County Sheriff’s Communication Auxiliary Team

The SCATeam functions under the direction of Lt. Dave Bennett of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, Division of Emergency Management.

The mission of the Utah County Sheriff’s Communications Auxiliary Team (SCATeam) is to provide emergency support and communications for the Utah County Sheriff’s Office and, through it, other agencies under the direction of the Emergency Services Division, thereby serving the public welfare in any emergency, disaster, or catastrophe.

The primary obligations of the SCATeam are:

  • Provide leadership forUtah County ARES .
  • Provide training to ARES members.
  • Conduct Testing of ARES members for certification.
  • Serve as local Volunteer Examiners forW5YI FCC license testing .
  • Provide immediate response for call-outs (first 4-8 hours).
  • Organize resources for staffing beyond that initial period.
    The SCATeam’s customers parallel those of ARES and individual team members are assigned as liaison to the cities of Provo, Orem, Spanish Fork, Salem, Springville, Alpine, American Fork, Lehi, Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, American Fork Hospital, Orem Community Hospital, Utah Transit Authority, etc. SCATeam works, further, with federal agencies such as US Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, etc.

    Membership in the SCATeam is available to members of ARES who complete a rigorous certification process.
