Level Two VHF Certification Requirements
To prepare the UCARES member for a supporting role in Emergency Operations the member must obtain Level Two Certification. The member must hold Level One Certification, possess the following equipment and complete the specified training. The member must then submit this form to the Emergency Coordinator for approval.
- Equipment Requirements
- Portable 2m or 2m/70cm antenna (e.g. J-pole, wire ground plane, etc.)
- Magnetic mount antenna for vehicle use
- 50 feet of coaxial cable (mini RG-8 or better) with PL259 connectors
- SO239/SO239 (barrel) connector
- SO239/BNC male adapter
- PL259/BNC female adapter
- Flashlight (AA) with spare batteries
- Pocket knife
- Roll of electrical tape
- 50 feet of nylon rope (1/4 inch or better)
- 3 MRE’s (Meals Ready to Eat)
- Water (2 quarts minimum)
- Personal first aid kit
- Five dollars in bills and coins
- Training Requirements
- Visit two liaison locations
- Participate in six UCARES weekly nets (one must be simplex)
- Attend two UCARES Interface meetings
- Present one training item on a UCARES weekly net
- Submit a Utah State RACES registration
